Bridge City Sinners – Death’s Door Tour 2026 at the Luxor in Cologne
Black-grass night with The Bridge City Sinners
The Bridge City Sinners are a dark folk and folk-punk band from Portland. Formed in 2016, they are recognized for blending traditional Appalachian string-band instrumentation with a fierce, uncompromising punk-rock attitude, creating a distinct style often described as “y’allternative” or “death folk.” The group emerged from humble beginnings, originally consisting of vocalist Libby Lux and upright bassist Scott Michaud, who busked on sidewalks across the country while hitchhiking. After establishing a full lineup in Portland, they steadily built a devoted underground following.
The Bridge City Sinners performed in front of a completely sold-out crowd at the Luxor in Cologne, drawing roughly 300 people. The night kicked off after a short stage reset with ‘Port Street Strut’, ‘Midnight to Vice’, and ‘Heavy’, immediately raising the temperature in the room and setting the tone for the evening. The band’s popularity was evident throughout the performance, as the supportive crowd—made up of fans of all ages—remained fully engaged from the very first chords.
The five-piece band exclusively utilizes traditional acoustic string instruments, with no percussionist or drummer involved. Their lineup features resonator guitar, upright bass, banjo, and fiddle, creating a unique blend of Prohibition-era jazz, bluegrass, Delta blues, and dark punk influences. Combined with moody, often haunting songwriting, the result is a distinctive bluegrass—or “blackgrass”—sound that stands apart from contemporary folk-punk acts.
The band’s fast-paced acoustic picking was perfectly complemented by Libby Lux’s dark, evocative lyrics and powerful vocal delivery. Her dynamic range brought both intensity and emotion to every performance, while the musicianship of the entire group maintained a relentless energy throughout the set. The overall atmosphere felt like a journey back to the Prohibition era, reimagined through a modern punk lens and infused with a rebellious spirit.
The setlist featured fan favorites such as ‘Break the Chain’, ‘Repent and Repeat’, ‘Devil Like You’, ‘Pick Your Poison’, and ‘Sinners Saloon’, to name just a few. Each song was met with enthusiastic applause, further highlighting the strong connection between the band and their audience. By the end of the evening, it was clear why the Bridge City Sinners continue to attract a growing and passionate fanbase wherever they perform
