The SoapGirls are an alternative rock band consisting of French-born, South African-raised sisters Noemie Debray (“Mie”) (guitar, vocals) and Camille Debray (“Mille”) (bass guitar, vocals). Camille is the elder by 11 months. The sisters are the only full members of the band, using various session drummers when touring and recording.
The live event at Cologne’s Groove Bar fell short of drawing a crowd, with the room barely a third full. On stage, the two sisters handled bass and guitar duties while sharing vocal responsibilities, supported by a session drummer. Musically, the set was serviceable if unremarkable, offering a straightforward mix of riffs and rhythms. The highlight came from the bassist, who injected some flair into the performance by bending backwards until her head nearly touched the floor, all while continuing to play. Despite such flashes of showmanship, the concert never quite rose above “OK-ish,” leaving the evening more memorable for its spectacle than its sound.
