The ongoing extreme heat in the area did not deter the 600–700 fans who came out to Die Kantine’s open-air stage for this highly anticipated concert. The event had originally been planned for Carlswerk Victoria but was moved to Die Kantine’s outdoor stage on fairly short notice. The start time was also brought forward to 6:30 p.m., as a public viewing of the Germany–Ecuador football match was scheduled immediately after the show.
Jackson Dean took the stage right on time and entertained a mixed-age audience, ranging from small children to retirees, for the next 60 minutes. Opening with Wildfire, he quickly got the crowd in a great mood. Blacktop Blues, another track from the new album, followed before he continued with Trailer Park. A great rendition of Fred Eaglesmith’s 49 Tons also made it into the setlist.
At times, the stage was somewhat overwhelmed by excessive smoke effects, occasionally obscuring the performers. Nevertheless, fan favourites such as Fearless, Heavens to Betsy, Hey Mississippi, and Train were all featured. The set closed with Don’t Come Lookin’, leaving the crowd wanting more.
