I learned about BAP when I arrived in Germany. Nearly all of BAP's lyrics are written in Kölsch, the dialect of Cologne. The group was founded in 1976 and gained quite a bit of success in Germany. The laxness arena was sold out which means roughly 14,000 people. while I couldn't understand a word from the lyrics, the concert was quite enjoyable, and that's what good music is about. I cannot really compare the bap sound with other bands, and again that's what a good band is about, they sound like themselves. as for genre I would say folk-rock(ish)-heartland rock of Germany, something like that. lots of narrative lyrics and story telling between songs. the band is enjoying its late revival, as many other bands in the world. BAP went through various member changes over the years but the singer Wolfgang Niedecken always the same. a totally enjoyable evening.
