To put it bluntly: No, Robbie Williams is not famous in North America. While he is a record-breaking megastar in the UK, Europe, and Australia—selling over 75 million records and holding a joint record with The Beatles for the most #1 albums in the UK—he is largely considered a “one-hit wonder” (at best) in the United States and Canada.
The “Robin Williams” Factor: In the late 90s, the name “Robbie Williams” caused genuine confusion for Americans who only knew the Oscar-winning actor.
British Irony: His persona—a mix of self-deprecating humor, “naughty boy” arrogance, and campy showmanship—often failed to translate. Americans.
Personal Choice: Robbie actually moved to Los Angeles in the early 2000s specifically because he wasn’t famous there. He has frequently stated in interviews that he loves the “anonymity” of being a regular guy in LA who can go to the grocery store without being mobbed.
Despite his lack of chart dominance, he did have a brief Las Vegas Residency in 2019, which performed well by drawing in international fans and a niche US audience. However, to the average person on the street in New York or Chicago, he remains a “who?”.
The album will find a place with hardcore fans, as for its originality, not much to write home about. The guitar heavy opener ‘Rocket’ featuring Tony Iommi ended up like a Billy Idol song featuring Oasis. The next two songs ‘Spies’ and ‘Pretty Face’ are chasing pop-punk sound then there is ‘Bite Your Tongue’. I just think Robbie Williams dreamed up a pop-punk album. ‘All My Life’ is a Robbie Williams song with an Oasis refrain. The album ends with some Take That style songs. I mean it’s not a bad album, it’s just all over the place and the only anchor is the voice of Robbie Williams.
