“Expect the unexpected”: That’s probably the best way to describe Seafret’s career. In over 15 years as a band, the British indie rock duo has experienced quite a lot – and won over more and more fans with their heartwarming music. Singer Jack Sedman and guitarist Harry Draper met in 2011 in a small bar in their hometown of Bridlington. Both were still shy teenagers, playing in front of an audience for the first time at an open mic night – and they hit it off immediately. The band name quickly came to them: Seafret refers both to a specific type of North Sea fog in their homeland and is also a play on words with the fretboard of a guitar. After moving to London together, they released their debut EP “Give Me Something” in 2014, which brought them their first successes. Their first album, “Tell Me It’s Real,” released in 2016, immediately entered the UK album charts. For their second album, “Most of Us Are Strangers” (2020), they took significantly less time compared to its predecessor: they wrote and produced the album in just seven weeks – the result was a dynamic, more mature album without losing the raw authenticity of their early work. The start of the pandemic changed their plans. Despite the physical distance, they continued writing – for their 2023 album, “Wonderland.” And something else happened during those pandemic years: their song “Atlantis,” originally released in 2016, went viral on TikTok – re-entering the charts, racking up over a billion streams, and generating a great deal of media attention. Now – ten years after the release of “Atlantis” – Seafret feel like a reborn band. The unexpected success of the single allowed them to take exactly as much time as they needed for their fourth album, “Fear of Emotion.” It was worth it: The album, due out in March 2026, is their boldest yet, and the camaraderie and creative joy are audible in every song. And of course, the new album deserves a proper celebration: Seafret are finally returning to European stages, including five stops in Germany!
