Fear Factory: The Industrial Metal Pioneers on a Major German Tour—Five Shows in September with Exciting Special Guests!
With Fear Factory, the undisputed kings of industrial metal return to concert stages around the globe! Throughout their extensive, now 36-year history,
the band has experienced many ups and downs—navigating soaring successes as well as personal differences—yet somehow, it has only made them stronger. This was proven in 2021 not only by their most recent studio album to date, *Aggression Continuum*, but also by their breathtaking live shows—five of which German fans can experience this coming September in Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, and Karlsruhe.
Fear Factory were not merely imitators of a hitherto unknown sound when they formed in 1989 under the name Ulceration; rather, with their wild blend of thrash and groove metal combined with pounding industrial elements, they helped define a new genre: Industrial Metal. Initially rooted more firmly in death metal, the three founding members—Burton C. Bell (vocals, keyboards), Dino Cazares (guitar, bass), and Raymond Herrera (drums)—developed a new sonic aesthetic that blasted from the speakers with equal parts brutality and futurism, intimidation and emotion.
Following their programmatically titled 1992 debut, *Soul of a New Machine*, the band achieved their breakthrough in the USA and the UK with their very next release, the 1995 album *Demanufacture*. With the 1998 follow-up, *Obsolete*—on which Fear Factory distilled their unique genre blend into a first internal artistic pinnacle—they rose to become global stars of the metal scene: despite its uncompromising heaviness, the album climbed to the upper reaches of the charts in countless nations. Fear Factory ranks among the most enduring metal bands—and arguably those with the highest turnover of members—yet each new addition has consistently injected fresh creative energy into the group. In particular, fierce disputes frequently erupted between the band’s two central figures, Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares—conflicts that even led to the band’s temporary dissolution in 2007. Now that Bell has permanently departed the band as of 2021, Fear Factory makes its debut on its latest album, *Aggression Continuum*, featuring new frontman Milo Silvestro—while simultaneously demonstrating a return to their signature strength.
The tour’s special guests also lend additional depth to the lineup, creating a rare and compelling international dynamic. Crystal Lake from Tokyo, for instance, will deliver high-energy, Asian-influenced moments with their explosive metalcore sound. Hate—one of Poland’s most esteemed extreme metal bands—will unleash a relentless sonic assault of dark black and death metal, backed by decades of underground credibility. The Nocturnal Affair from Las Vegas, conversely, introduces a darker, melodic dimension by weaving together elements of gothic and atmospheric rock—thereby playing their part in transforming these five evenings into highly multifaceted, high-impact metal sonic journeys.
