Brigitte Calls Me Baby
“Irreversible” is not only the title of the new album by the US-American alternative rock band Brigitte Calls Me Baby, but also the exact right word for the effect that this formation has on its listeners. Because anyone who has seen the quartet live once will be irrevocably enchanted by the intense, emotional live game that the band has been displaying since its founding in 2022.
Frontman Wes Leavins had previously gained his first musical experience in various musical productions, until he was encouraged to make music himself due to his tangible talent. This is where Jack Fluegel (guitar), Devin Wessels (bass) and Jeremy Benshish (drums) came into play, with whom Leavins eventually joined forces as Brigitte Calls Me Baby – the band name inspired by French actress Brigitte Bardot. In 2024, “The Future Is Our Way Out” was released, the quartet’s electrifying debut album, which secured the US Americans the status of an up-and-coming alternative rock band that should keep an eye on. This first breakthrough ensured sold-out tours in Europe, the USA and the UK as well as support slots for bands like The Strokes.
Despite constant being on the road, Brigitte Calls Me Baby never neglected her own musical catalog and delivered her second album with “Irreversible” a few months ago, which was mostly created between tour bus and concert venues. In her opulent lyrics, Brigitte Calls Me Baby literally kneels in emotions of all kinds and celebrate on the eleven songs of the new album the often overwhelming emotional diversity that life brings with it. The overall sound of the rousing vocals of Wes Leavins and the harmonious playing of his bandmates suggests influences from many great bands. From The Strokes to the striking vocal play of Elvis Presley, with which Leavins is repeatedly compared, to the long-legandary sound of The Smiths, you can always find exciting elements in Brigitte Calls Me Baby, which are transformed by the quartet into something new and own.
The live shows of the band from Chicago multiply the nostalgic-longing mood that many tracks have many times over and create epic, great moments that create a liberating feeling in their audience. After their almost completely sold out tour in March, next September there will be another opportunity to experience the band live at dates in Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne.
