AFI

For over thirty years, AFI (short for A Fire Inside) have been synonymous with captivating guitar riffs and catchy tracks blending rock, punk, and hardcore, earning them not only platinum certifications but also a loyal global fanbase. Now, they’re coming to Cologne in August for a show in support of their latest album, “Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…”. Founded in California in 1991, the band has consistently pursued its own path from the very beginning. From the uncompromising hardcore of their early years, through the dark and melodic punk phases of the early 2000s, to the multifaceted alternative rock sounds of later releases, the band has continually reinvented itself without losing its core identity. Albums like “Sing the Sorrow” (2003) and “Decemberunderground” (2006) exemplify this evolution and mark important milestones that have resonated far beyond the scene. With “Miss Murder” (2006), they achieved international success that firmly established their position. The Californians are known for their exceptionally intense live performances. Their shows thrive on dynamism, contrasts, and an immediate connection with the audience. Frontman Davey Havok is at the heart of a sound that oscillates between controlled energy and emotional depth. Together with Jade Puget, Hunter Burgan, and Adam Carson, he creates an atmosphere that both draws on the band’s early influences and reflects their later evolution. With their latest album, “Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…” (2025), AFI opens another chapter. The LP expands the band’s sonic landscape, blending familiar elements with new approaches. Between dark aesthetics, catchy structures, and experimental moments, the band’s ambition to avoid repetition and instead push the boundaries is evident once again. In August, Germany will have the opportunity to experience AFI in all their facets live when they come to Cologne for a show.
