While the town of Cochem is a popular tourist destination the Reichsburg Cochem aka the castle is the main attraction. there were several versions of the castle, the previous one was blown up in 1689. the latest version is not that that old. the ruin was bought for 300 gold coins by a well off French expat living Berlin and the new building was finished in 1890, then remained in private ownership only until 1942. from 1978 on the town of Cochem is the owner. The 45 min tour is decent price at 8.50 pp and accepts dogs on leash, pretty unique.
