We took the long flight across the Atlantic from Quito to Amsterdam on Aug 13, 2023. Two of us and Spice. Beside the usual annoyance of tourist class flying and some worries about Spice in the cargo area, not much to complain about. Check in at the Quito airport for Spice went quite smooth, and the pick up in Amsterdam was not difficult either. the vet papers were checked and approved fast for spice by some uniformed guys. I boarded the plane with my Canadian passport and entered the eu with my my freshly renewed Hungarian one, the first use ever for this passport, the expired one was never used. car rental went smooth too with sixt and we were loading soon to a station wagon luggages, dog and dog crate. all fit somehow and soon we were rolling on the smooth flat dutch highway towards Germany. why we need to do this? there was no other option to fly spice directly to cologne. internal flights in Europe are not taking dogs, at least not on our route. train was complicated and not exactly cheap either. so car rental it is.
