Joe Bonamassa at Lanxess Arena – A Perfect Night of Blues

Joe Bonamassa was my very first concert in Germany, and after all those years on the road, I was hungry for it. The show was set to start at 8 PM, and true to form, Joe hit the strings right on time. No warm-up band, no filler — just straight into Bonamassa.

The Lanxess Arena welcomed around 5,000 people, with only the first level and floor seating in use. It was the perfect size for an intimate yet powerful night of blues.

I’ve always thought Joe Bonamassa is an underrated guitarist. He has everything it takes to be one of the great bluesmen of today, and he proved it once again on that stage. He played fast, slow, high, and low — and every note had soul. His singing was right on point too. Throughout the night, he showcased a stunning collection of guitars, making each one sing with equal brilliance.

The touring band was excellent, with backup singers and a horn section that filled out the sound beautifully. It wasn’t just a guitar show — it was a full blues experience. And yes, it was the kind of night where middle-aged men leaned over to their wives or girlfriends to proudly explain which guitar Joe was holding at that moment.

One last note: the sound quality was outstanding. The sound engineer was absolutely on top of his game, making every detail crystal clear.

All in all, it was a perfect night of blues.
