Geoff Tate is an American singer and songwriter best known as the former lead vocalist of the progressive metal band Queensrÿche. Renowned for his impressive four-octave vocal range and operatic style, he was a driving force behind the band’s most successful albums, including the 1988 concept masterpiece Operation: Mindcrimeand the multi-platinum 1990 release Empire. Operation: Mindcrime – The Final Chapter Tour: He is currently on a world tour performing the entire Operation: Mindcrime album. Recent stops include Greece in early April 2026, with upcoming dates scheduled across Europe and North America throughout the year. Operation: Mindcrime III: Tate has announced the release of the third and final installment of the Operation: Mindcrime trilogy for May 2024 (with mixing finishing in summer 2026 for a full release). The album, titled Power, reportedly tells the saga from the perspective of the character Dr. X. Solo Work: Since his 2012 departure from Queensrÿche, he has released solo albums like Kings & Thieves and formed the band Operation: Mindcrime, which released a trilogy of concept albums between 2015 and 2017.Vocal Rankings: He is consistently ranked among the greatest metal vocalists, placing 14th on Hit Parader‘s “100 Greatest Metal Vocalists of All Time”. Queensrÿche Departure: Following a highly publicized backstage altercation in 2012, Tate was fired from Queensrÿche. A 2014 legal settlement granted his former bandmates the rights to the “Queensrÿche” name while giving Tate the exclusive right to perform the Operation: Mindcrime albums in their entirety.
