Dave Hause & The Mermaid
Dave Hause is back in full force: In January 2027, the US singer-songwriter and his band will be coming to Germany for six concerts, bringing his album “…And The Mermaid” to the stage, a show that consciously returns to the raw energy of a real band. The upcoming shows are not detached performances, but rather thrive on intimacy, energy, and the very directness for which Dave Hause is known. Sincere Engineer will open the evening as support. The Chicago-based punk rock/indie punk band, fronted by singer Deanna Belos, has established itself in the US scene over the past few years with several releases and high-energy live shows, and will complement the evening with their direct, unpretentious sound.
Since his 2011 debut album “Resolutions,” the Philadelphia-based songwriter has been known for songs deeply rooted in reality – emotional, social, and biographical. In recent years, Hause has increasingly moved towards an Americana-influenced sound, as heard on albums like “Blood Harmony” and “Drive It Like It’s Stolen.” Having recently toured with his brother Tim in an acoustic and intimate setting, he now opens a new chapter with “…And The Mermaid”—or rather, consciously returns to an earlier energy. The album was created in collaboration with his band Dave Hause & The Mermaid, marking his first time recording in this format. Instead of working with session musicians again, he consistently relies on the interplay of a permanent band—rawer, more direct, and closer to what has always defined his live shows. This decision permeates the entire album, which not only sounds musically more powerful but also reflects a more collaborative approach. Songs like “A Knife in the Mud” and “Cellmates” clearly demonstrate this new dynamic: driving rhythms, soaring choruses, and an immediate energy clearly aimed at the stage. At the same time, Hause remains true to his narrative approach, connecting personal experiences with broader social issues. Tracks like “Revisionist History” and “Enough Hope” also explore this connection, demonstrating how closely personal and political perspectives are intertwined in his work.
The album was produced in Vancouver with Jesse Gander, marking his first time recording outside the US and employing a deliberately different approach in the studio. The result is a sound that prioritizes attitude and interplay over perfection. For Hause himself, “…And The Mermaid” is not just another album, but also a return to the feeling that originally drew him to music: being part of a band and creating something greater together. When Dave Hause comes to Germany in January 2027, this very energy will be at the heart of his performance. His concerts thrive on intimacy, intensity, and interaction with the audience, and it is precisely there that the new songs unfold their full impact. Those who don’t want to miss this should secure their tickets early.
