Alphaville – Live In Concert
Alphaville is a legendary German synth-pop band formed in Münster in 1982. Best known for their iconic 1980s anthems, the group gained massive international fame with hits like “Big in Japan” and “Forever Young“. Originally a trio consisting of lead singer Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd, and Frank Mertens, the band took its name from Jean-Luc Godard’s 1965 science fiction film.
While their peak commercial success occurred in the 1980s, the band has remained remarkably active through the decades. In 2024, “Forever Young” experienced a massive resurgence, reaching number 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart nearly 40 years after its original release.
- Global Breakthrough: Their 1984 debut album, Forever Young, was a multi-platinum success, producing three major top-ten hits: “Big in Japan,” “Sounds Like a Melody,” and the title track.
- Artistic Evolution: Over the years, they expanded their sound beyond synth-pop into rock, jazz, and classical influences, notably on albums like The Breathtaking Blue (1989).
- Modern Era: In 2022, they released Eternally Yours, featuring symphonic re-recordings of their greatest hits with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg.
- Legacy: Their music has been extensively covered and sampled, most famously by Jay-Z on his 2009 hit “Young Forever”
