Blackberry Smoke was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2001. They are the first independently released artist to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Album charts in modern history.
In 2015, Blackberry Smoke became the first small independent outfit to have an album, Holding All The Roses, go to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
Blackberry Smoke’s 2016 album Like An Arrow did the same.
The opening band in E-Werk, ‘The Steel Woods’ was anything but pleasant and absolutely off from Blackberry Smoke. Too loud, too monotone and the bass was ready to tear off the ceiling. All those four chords played were anything but relaxing. The best part of it was when it was over. A relief.
Then Blackberry Smoke took the stage. Honestly I liked them, but I was not blown away. They couldn’t capture my attention and keep me hooked to the music. The majority of the songs were great but there were some obvious fillers. The stage design was great, the lights great, the sound pretty good. It wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t say that I cannot wait to see them again. But they packed out E-Werk and obviously they have bigger fans than I was that night. Maybe it was just the ruined mood by the opening band. With all that ‘One Horse Town’ is one of my all-time favourite songs, one of those tunes which can come up any time, anywhere, in any mood and I fully enjoy it.
