Villa de Leyva has a poor lineup of stores, although they seems to be everywhere the selection of produce is low around the historical area. The only good source of fresh produce is the Saturday market (mercado) about 3 blocks from the center. The selection is fairly good here, although I found it priced higher than the average ‘placitas’. In Colombia the fruits and veggies are sold in ‘placitas’, which are grocery store style indoor markets. Although it might be that I was hit with ‘special’ pricing by few vendors, which happens here and there. The market goes on all day and all the street dogs seem to show up for the event as well, so maneuvering with Blaze required some extra attention.
