For a small country Ecuador offers a wide range of cultural and geographical experience. It’s an amazing country. While a year ago we have seen a small-ish Corpus Cristi parade in Panama, this year the experience was a full blown fiesta/parade in Pujili, in the Cotopaxi province of Ecuador. The altitude is roughly 3,000 meters and Pujili is just 10 km off the main highway from Latacunga. Not exactly listed on the list of main tourist traps of Ecuador. The town has some colonial buildings, nothing extensive and the population is mainly indigenous. The Corpus Cristi parade is listed as ‘intangible cultural heritage of humanity’ on the Ecuadorian tourism minister web page. I think it holds up to this description. The event started at 10 AM and went on until about 4-5 PM in the scorching UV of the clear day. Basically all Ecuador was well represented here with dancing groups, dressed in an amazing wide variety of traditional wear.
