San Antonio, I wonder how many places are carrying this name. Probably at least one per each Latin American country. There are at least two in Ecuador San Antonio de Pichincha and San Antonio de Ibarra. Just few minutes driving from Ibarra is this sleepy town which is mainly known for it’s wood artisans. From carvings to furniture, just about anything you can imagine made of wood. Also it covers a wide range of taste and themes, from modern to religious, from kitsch to simplist. Again, as we noticed generally in this country, people are friendly and easy going if I ask permission for photos. There was only one store where I got a polite ‘No’ selling baroque style furniture. The rest of the vendors were very nice, open for a small talk and showing their merchandise. I would say there were quite a few excellent items I could imagine decorating my house with. The town itself carries some colonial buildings around the center and few churches as well, of course. Several carved wood statues are exposed outdoors.
