‘Under the Bridge’ by Red Hot Chilli Peppers was playing silently in my head while we walked one of the no-go areas of Medellin. Just under the metro bridge (strangely called metro while it goes in the air), just along Carrera 51 in Prado there is a street market, a mixture of poor people, street people, pot smell in the air, used stuff for sale on the ground and stores selling food or cheap Chinese runners just on the other side of the street. It’s a drug dealing hotspot and the crime/murder rate is one of the highest in Medellin. Not a place a normal tourist would go. A guy wearing his backpack on his chest advises to put away the camera and get the hell outta here. The market starts just across the street from Parque Botero and stretches under the metro line for about 500 metres or so. We walked the market back and forth, took some photos and walked out without a problem. Positive mindset it’s always a good thing while traveling.
